The Urban Institute Summer Internship is a ten-week, paid program created to give students interested in research, public policy, and organizational operations challenging and gratifying work assignments that support Urban’s purpose.
Available Urban Institute Internship
Below are the available internships in different areas of specialization
1. Research Programmer Intern (Office of Technology and Data Science)
Urban Institute is excited to launch its Research Programmer Intern program, which is housed in the Office of Technology and Data Science. For ten weeks, this paid, part-time internship will be available.
Candidates must be actively pursuing a master’s or bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or public policy to be eligible to apply for this internship.
The intern will work on creating a proof-of-concept to lower obstacles to moving modeling workloads from on-premise to the cloud.
2. Development Intern (Office of Development)
Urban Institute would like to extend an invitation to students to take part in its Development Intern program (Office of Development).
This compensated 10-week program’s objectives are to give participants practical experience and many opportunities to network with other interns and staff members.
Candidates seeking a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline are encouraged to apply.
3. Research Intern (Justice Policy Center)
The Justice Policy Center at the Urban Institute is now seeking a bright, ambitious research intern. This 10-week paid, part-time internship will be available to you.
For this internship, candidates must be rising juniors or seniors pursuing a bachelor’s degree (BA, BS) in sociology, criminal justice, or a related discipline.
You will collaborate on projects designed to improve and assess the criminal justice response in the US throughout your internship.
4. Market Research Intern (Office of Technology & Data)
(Office of Technology & Data) Market Research Intern The Urban Institute is presently accepting applications for its Market Research Intern program.
This 10-week paid internship has an entry-level salary. Candidates for this internship should be pursuing a bachelor’s degree (BA, BS) in public policy, marketing, business, technology, data science, or a related profession.
This intern will assist in determining the policy research field’s technological and data capabilities needs.
5. Budget Analyst Intern (Office of Accounting & Finance)
Urban Institute is now taking applications for the open post of Budget Analyst Intern in their office of accounting and finance.
The location of this paid, part-time internship will be Washington, D.C. A bachelor’s degree (BA, BS) in accounting, accounting information systems, or finance is required of ideal candidates.
The new accounting and ERP system’s project budgets and forecasts will be built, monitored, and updated by this intern.
6. Human Resources Intern (Office of Human Resources)
Urban Institute is now hiring bright, motivated, and industrious interns for the position of Human Resources Intern in their office of human resources.
The location of this paid, part-time internship will be Washington, D.C. Candidates must be rising juniors or seniors pursuing a bachelor’s degree in human resources or a closely related discipline to be considered for this internship.

7. Housing Finance Intern (Housing Finance Policy Center)
Urban Institute is currently accepting applications for the post of housing finance intern in the housing finance policy center in Washington, D.C.
This is a salaried, part-time position. Candidates must be enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program in economics, public policy, business, real estate, political science, or a similar discipline to be eligible for this internship.
The project and program managers at the center will mentor and oversee the intern in housing finance.
8. External Affairs Intern (Office of Communications)
The Office of Communications at the Urban Institute in Washington, D.C., is pleased to share information on its externship program for external affairs.
This internship will be a paid, part-time work for 10 weeks. Candidates must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, business administration, economics, education, journalism, liberal arts, political science, public administration, public policy, public relations, or mass communication in order to be considered for this opportunity
9. Communications Intern (Center on Education Data and Policy)
The Center on Education Data and Policy in Washington, D.C., hosts the Communications Intern for Urban Institute.
Ten weeks will pass during the course of this compensated, part-time internship. Candidates must be enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program in public policy, communications, education, journalism, public relations, or the liberal arts in order to be considered for the post.
10. Data Science Intern (Office of Technology and Data Science)
Urban Institute is actively encouraging students to participate in their Data Science Intern program, which is housed under the Office of Technology and Data Science.
This is a paid position for 10 weeks. Candidates should have a master’s degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or public policy, or a bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience, to be eligible for this position.
Participants must be enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program in the relevant discipline. Research, analytics, HR, marketing, finance, data science, external affairs, communications, and other fields all provide internship opportunities.
