NHSC Scholarship 2022 – Check Application Details
Students interested in a career in primary healthcare may be eligible for financial aid through the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) scholarship program for agreeing to practice medicine in underprivileged areas when they graduate.
About NHSC Scholarship
The Health Resources and Services Administration oversees and receives funding from the federal government for NHSC scholarships (HRSA).
A promise to work for at least two years at an NHSC-approved location in a medically underserved community for a scholarship that covers tuition, fees, and other educational costs and a living allowance.
The student consents to serve a minimum of two years (or one year) at an NHSC-approved site in a high-need urban, rural, or frontier community nationwide for each year of financial support (up to four years).
After graduation, service begins (and completion of primary care residency training for doctors and dentists). The NHSC assists students in selecting an appropriate practice location. While working, scholars are paid a market-rate pay by the facility they are working for.
Eligibility
1. U.S. citizens (U.S. born or naturalized) or U.S. nationals.
2. Full-time student at an accredited school in an U.S. state or territory.
3. Enrolled or accepted in the following primary health care disciplines:
– Primary care physician (DO or MD)
– Primary care physician assistant (PA)
– Dentist (DDS or DMD)
– Family nurse practitioner (NP)
– Certified nurse-midwife (CNM)

Application Process
The application process for NHSC scholarships is quite tough. Over 1,800 applications are submitted annually from hundreds of institutions across the nation. Only about 10% of candidates are chosen to earn a scholarship.
In order to be selected for the scholarship, candidates must, above all, show a dedication to provide primary care in underserved communities and a desire to continue serving after fulfilling the NHSC service requirements.
Excellent academic standing, a track record of upholding earlier legal responsibilities, evidence of financial necessity, and applicants coming from disadvantaged backgrounds are additional important selection criteria.
