Idaho Opportunity Scholarship – Check Eligibility
Idaho Opportunity Scholarship strives to assist students in enrolling in postsecondary institutions located in Idaho by providing the funding to support and continue their education.
About Idaho Opportunity Scholarship
In order to remove obstacles to higher education and prepare college/university graduates for the workforce, Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter and the Idaho Legislature established the Opportunity Scholarship.
The Opportunity Scholarship is renewable for up to four years and provides qualifying students with up to $3,500 per academic year.
Each academic year, there are available scholarship monies. Recipients can only be awarded the scholarship for a total of four years and must reapply every year.
Eligibility
To qualify for the scholarship, you must:
- Be an Idaho resident
- Be a high school senior or college student who graduated or is about to graduate from an Idaho high school or homeschool
- Have an unweighted, cumulative 2.7 GPA or higher
- Maintain a satisfactory academic progress
- Attend eligible Idaho colleges or universities
Requirements
- To maintain the scholarship, the student needs to maintain on par academic performance (2.7 GPA) up to the final academic year. Priority for funding is more for renewal students.
- A total of 1500 awards are given every year to the eligible students.
- 70% of financial eligibility criteria and 30% of academic eligibility criteria are used to select the students for scholarship awards.
- If there is a situation of a tie, then the student whose application was received first will be given preference.
How to Apply
You must submit an application if you want to compete for the Opportunity Scholarship. The actions you must take are:
- Collect the necessary documents
- Complete the State Board of Education scholarship application
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form
This scholarship is open to U.S. high school seniors and undergraduate students who are residents of Idaho, graduated from Idaho high schools, and attend selected Idaho institutions
