  • Due to a labor cost advantage, hiring an intern cannot result in unfair rivalry with other farms.
  • A farm can only host three interns at once.

It’s critical to realize that volunteers cannot serve as interns for a private, for-profit company. Under the Fair Labor Standards Act, farm internships may be excluded from minimum wage and overtime restrictions if they satisfy certain standards.
