Epidemiology Internship (See More Information)

All epidemiology students are required to complete an internship. The opportunity to work outside of the classroom, to practice a wider range of epidemiologic activities.

Meaning of Epidemiology

The study and analysis of the patterns and determinants of health and disease conditions in a defined population is known as epidemiology.

By identifying risk factors for disease and areas to focus on for preventive healthcare, it serves as the foundation for public health and influences policy choices and evidence-based practice.

Epidemiologists provide assistance with study planning, data gathering, statistical analysis, and result interpretation and dissemination (including peer review and occasional systematic review). Clinical research, public health investigations, and, to a lesser extent, basic biological science research all benefit from the technique that epidemiology has helped to build.

Requirements for an Internship

• Requires the completion of an abstract and a poster presentation that serves as the internship’s final report.
• May serve as the foundation for the master’s essay
• 200 hours minimum, usually 20 hours every week for 10 weeks
• May take place both inside and outside of the University of Pittsburgh (for example, in community-based organizations, health services organizations, or state- or county-level health departments).
• Is something that each student and his or her faculty advisor must agree upon
• Starts once the pupil has finished the equivalent of a full year of coursework.
• During the summer, part-time students can make plans for other periods as well.

Interns learning more about public health science or honing their leadership and critical-thinking abilities will help come up with quick, strategic, and efficient solutions to safeguard the general population’s health, practical training programs for college students and fresh grads.
